“Gangnam Style”, a 2012 global hit song by South Korean singer and rapper PSY. Recently, the song achieved an important milestone of surpassing 4.4 billion views on YouTube. This good news has been announced by Psy’s management company P Nation to the media.
Reportedly, “Gangnam Style” was released in July 2012. It is the lead track from PSY’s sixth full-length album and it became a global hit as its humorous music video and the singer’s trademark horse dance went viral.
The song also helps PSY become the first K-pop act to reach #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 main singles chart.
The music video for “Gangnam Style” became the first video to surpass YouTube’s view limit when it surpassed 2 billion views in May 2014, prompting the service to upgrade its count. After that, the MV surpassed 3 billion views in November 2017 and 4 billion in March last year.
Besides “Gangnam Style”, PSY also has other MVs with huge views such as “Gentleman” and “Oppa is Just My Style”, which respectively attracted more than 1.4 billion and 800 million views. His other hit single, “Hangover”, has garnered over 300 million streams.
With this achievement, PSY currently holds the record of being the K-pop singer with the highest-viewed MV on YouTube with 4.4 billion views. Meanwhile, Blackpink and BTS have yet to achieve this achievement. Accordingly, the MV with the most views of Blackpink is “DDU-DU DDU-DU” with more than 1.85 billion views. As for BTS, the MV with the best record is “Boy with luv” with 1.5 billion views.
