Thailand targets Lisa (BLACKPINK) as a tourism ambassador

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) plans to invite Lisa and Italian singer Andrea Bocelli to perform in Phuket later this year, with the goal of promoting Thailand as a "world-class destination". .

Thailand will hold a grand countdown event to welcome New Year’s Eve 2022, which is expected to invite Italian singer – Andrea Bocelli and female singer Lisa – BLACKPINK group member to perform. It is likely that Phuket will be selected to host this program, as the Thai government is trying to promote the island as a “world-class destination”.

The head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, said the plan was aimed at restoring the confidence of international tourists, and at the same time bringing Thai destinations into the spotlight globally. It announced it was reopening to international travelers who received the vaccine in November.

President of the Federation of Thai Industries, Mr. Supant Mongkolsuthree, said that although it will cost a lot of money, the invitation of singer Andrea Bocelli and K-pop star Lisa is well worth it, with an estimated fan base of up to 20 million people globally. Mr. Supant Mongkolsuthree suggested that Thailand should invite singer Lisa to become the country’s tourism ambassador.

Besides promoting tourism, Thailand continues to consider eliminating the process of issuing a certificate of entry (COE) to simplify procedures for international visitors. This is considered the biggest obstacle in the implementation of the country’s “Phuket sandbox” plan. In addition, TAT also proposed the government reduce the price of RT-PCR tests to below 1,000 baht ) and add testing capacity at airports to avoid congestion.
